About
Our Commitment
Treehouse is committed to enhancing children’s lives and worlds. This commitment is for all children, everywhere, and not just our privileged community.
More than half of the companies that we work with have social and/or environmental programs in place. They work with orphanages, children's charities, community organizations and various international organizations like UNICEF.
Some notable companies and their social programs include Boon which gives 10% of their proceeds to children's charities. Minimink gives 5% of their online sales to the Forget-me-not orphanage in Australia. 5% of NY-based designer Harry Allen's Pig Bank sales benefit the Humane Society to help animals. Kidsonroof works with UNICEF to help fight AIDS in Russia.
These companies also opt for sustainable manufacturing and local production employing traditional techniques and, in many cases sustaining villages with their production. Companies like Haba and Sirch produce locally in Germany taking advantage of the highest quality of wood workmanship that Germany boasts, Bla Bla dolls and their other items are all hand knit in Peru, Oeuf produces 100% alpaca knits in Bolivia all made by hand. And Moroccan sensation Zid Zid makes all their many wares in local villages using the regional themes, motifs and in some cases, they even use recycled materials.
We at Treehouse give a percentage of our proceeds to local foundations and will always give you a discount when you bring in your children’s new or gently used clothing and toys. We discount your purchase 1% per piece that you donate, up to 15%. We ensure that these items go directly to children in need throughout Turkey. Further, our goal is that piece for piece, whatever is sold in our store, we donate the same amount back to Turkish children in communities in need.
We are also working with great organizations like ACEV on joint projects like helping them to furnish and supply pre-schools in the south-east of Turkey. Additionally, our "Poncho Project" is not only creating the most beautiful one-of-a-kind, hand-made garments for your precious ones, but also helping to sustain families in the village of Yuvacali Koyu Hilvan and buy books for their schools.
Our Environmental Commitment
Our environmental commitment affects the store we have built, the products we carry and the companies we work with. You will find many organic, recycled and sustainably manufactured products available at Treehouse. All our printed material – from tags to bags – is on recycled paper. We believe in carrying heirloom-quality products that last a good portion of a child's life and can be handed down and not thrown away.
The store itself was conceived of to make the smallest environmental footprint possible. We have used reclaimed woods and renewable resources wherever possible. The companies that manufacture our furniture, etc. have put in place sustainable and ethical manufacturing practices and some companies that we work with even give a percentage of their proceeds to environmental causes.
